Why Tahiti and Bora Bora? I saw a video of an Over-the-water Bungalow and at the end of the video it stated "NOW GET BACK TO WORK!" Ironically, I was at work and I said to myself, this is where I am going for my retirement. So the planning started 2 years prior to retirement in 2005.
We spent the first night on Papeete at the Intercontinental Hotel. This was after a 9 hour First Class flight Air Tahiti Nui to Papeete. The next day we traveled on a puddle-jumper to Bora-Bora for a 3 night stay in Over-the-water Bungalow. In the Southern Hemisphere March is considered off-season and is Monsoon. Even with that in mind, the Bungalow was still $1200 USD a night! We did have the resort to ourselves. There were a few Japanese Honeymooners and a few people from Australia. We were only one of two couples at the Bora Bora Nui Resort from USA.
After that fabulous stay, we traveled back to Papeete to start a Tahitian Princess Cruise in the Owner's suite.
Sheri and I were on a quest to learn as much as we could about Tahitian pearls. Each island we would plan a journey that would include finding those perfect pearls. It was fun to plan our excursions around the pearl industry. Of course, shopping for pearls was also the main reason for learning all about them.
Was the mission accomplished? Yes it was!

Tahitian Islands Retirement and Birthday Cruise
Tahiti
Tahiti is the highest and largest island in French Polynesia and is all about black-sand beaches, lagoons and waterfalls. it’s where the 1962 film Mutiny on the Bounty was filmed with Marlon Brando, firmly cementing its reputation as an idyllic, desert island.
Bora Bora
Just a 50-minute plane ride away, northwest of Tahiti, Bora Bora is a small South Pacific island, in French Polynesia. It is surrounded by motus (islets) and a turquoise lagoon which is protected by a coral reef. It’s known for its scuba diving and is a popular luxury resort destination where guest bungalows are perched on stilts overlooking the water. At the island’s center is Mt. Otemanu, a 727 dormant volcano.
